I wanted this piece to represent that there is such an abundance
of innocent life, and they have no clue that their very fate
rests in our hands...
I had recently acquired the pewter fairy figurine from jazzylavender and instantly knew that I would be shouldering the scope on her wings as she kneeled, resting upon the crystal ball.
I used CBS Blue/Gold Ripple Dichroic for the scope which instantly drew attention as the perfect backdrop. By this time I was really experimenting with different types of jewelry. On Blissful Ignorance, I used vintage stick pins, brooches, wire and post earrings and even a handmade Swarovski AB beaded ring from England. As usual, I tried to keep the integrity of the pieces if at all possible. Near the viewing chamber of the mirrored scope you can see a vintage silver leaf clip-on earring that can be easily opened and closed.
The Metzke pewter leaf with birds is dated 1975. The Metzke Pewter Company was renowned for their detail and for their original ideas. This vintage leaf with birds was actually a 'bud vase' and originally had just one bird. I added a stray Metzke bird to the pewter bud vase along with an old Coro earring that was my Grandmothers...
I've acquired other Metzke pieces that range from napkin holders to brooches to letter openers. You name it, they seem to have made it.
One of their greatest contributions to history is that they SO perfectly captured a snapshot of our lives...
