#53 Aunt Poodle, Uncle Shepherd,
When I was in junior high school, I took a shop class.
While others were making very cool creations of their own,
I had a slightly different idea...

I made a two-story 'Hamster Mansion' complete with a beautiful wooden staircase, upstairs bed and bath, downstairs kitchen
and of course, the 'hamster wheel'.
Using wood and chicken wire, it was a pleasureable time and
it was my masterpiece...

Soooo...thirty-six(?) years later, when I happened upon the vintage jewelry brooches of portraits of different dogs...
Well, the 'Hamster Mansion' instantly came to mind.

I could see in my mind, a glass staircase made with 1/4" strips
of glass. Then, on the glass walls going up the staircase,
as 'family portraits' were the lovely porcelain pins of
the German Shepherd, the Poodle, the Collie, the Terrier and
the Cocker Spaniel...

I decided to create the piece as a 'dollhouse' with an open front.
Imagining this piece was originally what led to the searches of vintage dollhouse accessories and little brass miniatures...

Even thimbles became an interesting lesson in history that I stumbled upon while looking for items that would help me make my little glass dollhouse for the dogs.
